01-13 - TIGERS FIRE HOSE ENRICHMENT : The Anchorage Fire Dept. donated some used hose, which in turn was made into an enrichment for our Amur Tigers by our zoo staff. I can report that the ball of hose only lasted approx. 1 hour before pulled it down and started unraveling it.

TIGERS BEER BASH! : Glacier BrewHouse donated a couple of 'kegs' that were given to our tigers today as part of their enrichment program. After being placed in the exhibit Jim the keeper spray perfume as an attractant for the tigers.

TIGERS NEW ZIP LINE : Tigers at the Alaska Zoo have a new 'enrichment' toy in their enclosure. Thanks to the efforts of zoo keepers and the zoo's maintenance department our tigers now have a new zip line with which to entertain themselves and hopefully the viewing public.

OUR NEW HOME! : From my standpoint as the zoo photographer I feel that the boys are settling in nicely. No longer do they appear that they want to rip my head off when I'm in the area to get shots of them. Tonight Kunali seemed very comfortable around me, to the point where as you can see in these current images that he stretched out on the ground and even rolled over in a very playful manner. Of course during some of these shots I was listening to him grumble under his breath which reminded that at any minute he could change his mind and make a leap for me. At which point I would of ended the session. I hope those of you viewing from New York enjoy the albums and please come back and visit often.

OUR NEW TIGERS : Our two new Amur Tigers, Korol and his brother Kunali arrived today from the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse, NY. The brothers are 4 years old, and weigh approximately 500 pounds each. The tigers will go on public display at noon on Saturday, June 21 during our Zoolstice celebration at the Zoo.
