2005 ONE MAN KITE SHOW : All the kites in this series are owned by one person. On days when conditions permits he starts flying his kites and before long he has snared onlookers to assist him in keeping them flying. He had 5 going at one time and I was able to get them all in one shot. Good going Donnie!

THE IDITAROD : March 3, 2003 this is the beginning of the The Last Great Race - the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. A race from Anchorage to Nome Alaska, 1,049 miles. The images I have here were taken from behind Mulcahy Park on their way out of town. This is the ceremonial start of the race and it actually starts the next day from Wasilla.....EXCEPT this year as there was not enough snow down here.

DOG SLED RIDE : Several years ago my friends from 20 Mile Kennels asked me to go along for a dog sled ride during a training run. It was extremely cold out that day but I'll have to say it was quite a rush. Thank you Larry and Janice, and to all the 'pups'!

ICE RACING : In Feb. of each year Anchorage celebrates the Fur Rondevous Event, simply known as Fur Rondy. It is a mid winter carnival and as part of the festivities they hold the ice racing event. It takes place down on the Alaska Railroad property and consists of a oval track layout, with high sidewalls constructed out of snow to help contain the cars. The road surface is extremely wet and most often frozen and provides a challenge for those racers that have entered. You have to be there, standing in the cold and listenting to roar to really appreciate.
