HONEY HAS ARRIVED
The Alaska zoo has provided homes and care for Alaska’s orphaned and injured wildlife for more than 50 years and is excited to welcome Honey a female black bear as a permanent resident.
Honey was orphaned in December of 2007 as a cub of the year that wandered the Haines Highway and neighborhoods for many days approximately 30 miles north of Haines. Unable to survive on her own, she was placed at a facility in Haines, Alaska as a cub and is being relocated to the Alaska Zoo as a companion for the zoo’s resident black bear Zayk who has been alone since the passing of 22-year-old Mavis last May.
Honey is currently staying in the orphaned cub facility during a 30-day quarantine where she will be visible to the public in the outdoor yard beginning Tuesday June 9th, 2020 barring any unforeseen complications. After 30 days she will slowly be introduced to Zayk in preparation for her transition to the black bear habitat.
