MAC'S MEMORIAL PAGE
It is with great sadness that the Learning Farm announces the passing of our beloved 'MAC'.
Our Percheron draft horse, Mac was brought to Alaska by Jon Nauman, owner of the Horse Drawn Carriage Company,
(www. horsedrawncarriagealaska.com) at the age of four or five. He worked for Jon, giving carriage rides downtown and sleigh rides through the woods in the winter.
At age 17, Mac was sold to a trail riding and sleigh business. At age 27, the new owner of the sleigh business gave Mac to The Learning Farm.
It was a big commitment to take on an older horse with a huge appetite, but Mac has blessed the farm beyond our wildest dreams.
Mac was an official greeter for The Learning Farm. He had us well trained to give him carrots and treats whenever he comes to the house and looks at us through the window, OR walks up onto the porch and waits at the front door. Yes, Mac has come inside a few times when we weren’t quick enough, but thankfully he backs up well. Mac has not only pulled many kids in our little carriage, but has enjoyed being the star of our new vaulting team. Mac has performed with the team at various public events, stepping high, giving no indication of his many years, except the white hair on his face that attempts to expose his age.
Our beloved Mac has moved onto greener pastures. Words can not express the impact Mac made in our lives during the few short years we were blessed to have him with us. He loved being a farm yard pet and we loved his big gentle personality.
Mac was one in a million.
Thank you Joshua Hale for donating him to the farm.
Thanks to the McClure family for helping financially with his feed and care.
Thank you Gillian for the extra tlc you gave Mac.
Thanks to the Cooley family for their support and assistance.
............... and a special thanks to John Gomes for this wonderful Mac Memorial Page.
Rest in peace Mac.
