ICE RACING
In Feb. of each year Anchorage celebrates the Fur Rondevous Event, simply known as Fur Rondy. It is a mid winter carnival and as part of the festivities they hold the ice racing event. It takes place down on the Alaska Railroad property and consists of a oval track layout, with high sidewalls constructed out of snow to help contain the cars. The road surface is extremely wet and most often frozen and provides a challenge for those racers that have entered. You have to be there, standing in the cold and listenting to roar to really appreciate.
